Introduction to College
|

Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad (A Sikh Minority Degree College) was Established by
the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee in 1970 to the mark the fifth birth centenary
of the great Guru after whom this college is named. the college is managed by a
Governing Council Nominated by the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Dhanbad, and
draws its inspiration from the teachings of faith propounded by Guru Nanak Devji.The
College got Permanent Affiliation with the Vinoba Bhave University Hazaribagh in
the faculties of arts and commerce up to degree level. The College aim at catering
to the academic needs of the students of Dhanbad particularly those belonging to
economically backward families of the surroundings area. also, it aim at grooming
them into worthy citizens of tomorrow with an in-depth faith in oneness of god and
universal brotherhood of man.The College also aims at proving such training and
tools to the students , by way of introducing vocational courses, as may help them
win their bread easily.

Location
|
|
This college was started in a very spacious building , adjacent with the Central
Gurudwara, Katras Road ,Dhanbad. The college went from strength to strength, and
celebrated its silver jubilee in 1995 in that building. But by then it was felt
that the college required another building of its own. The college management, true
to the ideals of the great guru after whom this college is named, decided to take
the Boy's wing of the college in Bhuda, 4 KM away a place inhabited mainly by the
local tribal people, Who needed the light of education.
A new campus of the college was inaugurated on 16th of November 1997 by Dr A. R.
Kidwai, The then Governor of Bihar. This campus was dedicated to the cause of learning
to the poor and deprived boys of the locality. At present, about 2000 student are
enrolled in that campus in various courses.

Extracurricular
|
|
Extra - curricular activities are a vital part of college education. This undoubtedly
contributes to the development of a sound mind in a sound body. Qualities such as
truthfulness, healthy competition, leadership and co-operation-in fact the whole
personality are developed through games, sports ,debates and other allied activities.
The college provides suitable opportunity to the student for participating in Cricket
,Football, Volleyball, Badminton and athletics tournaments organized by the university
annually. Guru Nanak college cricket team has earned the distinction of having won
the Vinoba Bhave University inter-college Cricket tournaments five times out of
nine, that too, four times in row. The college provides suitable opportunity to
the students to participate in cricket, Football, Volleyball, Badminton and athletics
tournaments organized by the university. The college proposes to have a debate competition
,an essay competition and Quiz competition too during the current academic year.
Finally, the college proposes to have its Annual Function sometime early next year
after all the above activities are completed.

Library
|
|
The College has a well stocked library consisting of books on various subject. Each
student can borrow one book at a time for a period of fifteen days. it is important
that students keep returning the books in time. only then library can be useful
to a maximum number of students. those who will fail to return books within time
will have to pay fine, which will not be excusable by any authority. from this year.
Honors students can borrow two books at a time for a period of fifteen days. A Qualified
Librarian are available to guide the Students with regard to selection of books
and other matters regarding the proper use of library facilities

Admission
|
|
Prospectus and Application form may be obtained from the college office, dhanbad
personally on all working days in specified date duration between 10.30 am and 3.30
pm on payment of RS 30/= in cash. Incomplete and late application forms, furnishing
false information will be summarily rejected without any information to the candidate
concerned. in the this connection no correspondence will be entertained.
Note : the college management reserve the right to reschedule the program of admission
etc. if needed and may refuse admission to any candidate unsuitable for valid reasons
only such candidate will be eligible to be considered for admission , who have passed
their qualifying exam. and have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in the qualifying
examination from a recognized board/council The selection of the candidate for admission
to selected course will be done strictly in accordance the merit list prepared on
the basis of rules and regulations specifically laid down by the government of Jharkhand.
the selection basis may be the marks obtained at qualifying examination the college
may takes entrance examination for the same, if required.

|
|
There is a unit of N.C.C in college. 2LT. prof. gopal sharma of commerce department
is in charge of the college N.C.C. unit

N. S. S.
|
|
The university has sanctioned one unit (100 students: 50 boys and 50 girls) of N.C.C
in the college W.e.f the new academic session. prof. munvihwar prasad has been appointed
in charge of the N.S.S.

Poor Boy Fund
|
|
such students who are good at studies and co-curricular activities but comes from
economically poor homes will be eligible for grant of free studentships. free studentship
will be granted to maximum of 12.5% of the total strength of a class, which is in
accordance with the university and govt. rules. such students who wish to avail
of this facility, must indicate in their admission forms that they will need free
studentship, if selected for admission.
