It was unanimously resolved by the I.Q.A.C. of the college that a quality lecture series programme be started in the college for the benefit of the students and the members of the faculty. It was recommended that eminent scholars, academicians, celebrities and artists be invited to deliver lecture in the college. This was also suggested that the series be named as ’’Guru Nanak Dev Lecture Series’’.
This suggestion was accepted by the college governing council and it was decided that Guru Nanak Dev Lecture Series be organised in the college under the guidance and supervision of the IQAC. It was expected that a minimum of 4 such lectures would be delivered in one academic session. Organising this programme would entail expenditure, which was magnanimously sanctioned by the Governing Council.
Guru Nanak Dev Lecture Series was started on : 26th August, 2017
The 1st Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organized by the Department of Hindi on 26th August, 2017 in the Seminar Room of the College. The main speaker was Dr. Gautam Sanyal, former H.O.D. Dept. of Hindi, Burdwan University (West Bengal) and a distinguished critic of Hindi literature. He presented a talk on “Shopping Mall me Hamid” in which he chose to focus on the social change and social structure vis-a-vis Premchand Literature.
The 2nd Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organised by the Dept. of English on 24th January, 2018 in the seminar room of the college. The main speaker was Prof. Ravinandan Sinha, Professor and former Head Dept. of English, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. The lecture was titled “The Predicament of Modern Indian Writers in English”, where in Prof. R.N. Sinha suggested with proper references that Indian English authors have always struggled to establish proper harmony between plot and reality.
The 3rd Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organised by the Dept. of Economics on 18th July, 2018 at our Bhuda campus. Dr. Sajal Mukjerjee, Professor and Head Dept. of Economics, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag and one of the renowned scholars of economics delivered a lecture on “Where are the Jobs: Decoding India’s Jobless Growth.”
The lecture was started at 11 a.m. by welcoming of the main speaker Dr. Sajal Mukherjee. Among those who were present on the dias were Sardar Diljaun Singh Grewal, Secretary, Guru Nanak College Dhanbad, Principal, P. Shekhar, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof-in-charge, Bhuda Campus and Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof-in-Charge, Women’s Wing.
Dr. Mukherjee concluded his lecture with a solution to the problem being faced by the Country. He suggested that present education system be linked to skill oriented courses. He advised the students to work hard and focus on their goal.
On this occasion teachers of local and host colleges and large number of students of department of economics(approximately 100 boys and girls) were present
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Principal, P. Shekhar.
The 4th Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organised by the Dept. of Commerce on 17th August, 2019 in the seminar room of the college on the topic ‘’Fundamentals of Taxation”. The main speaker was Sri Pritam Kumar Lala, a senior advocate of Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi and social activist, also author of official book of the Jharkhand Govt. on G.S.T. He emphasized on the topic by providing insights on direct taxation. He also discussed about the Goods and Services Tax and its provisions followed by an interactive session where in the speaker answered the queries raised by the participants.
The 5th Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organised by the Dept. of History on 13th September, 2019 in the Sardar G.S. Grewal Auditorium of the college. The main speaker was Dr. I.K. Choudhary, Professor and former Dean, Faculty of social sciences, Ranchi University, Ranchi. The lecture was titled “History and Historiography: Indian Perspective” wherein Prof. I.K. Choudhary said that history helps us understand change and how the society we live in came to be. The light was also thrown by Dr. I.K. Choudhary on the system of writing history to read and understand it and also our duty to conserve history.
The 6th Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was delivered by Dr. B.K. Sinha, Associate Professor and Head, Dept. of Political Science, St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi. The lecture was delivered on 28th Sept. 2019 at our Bhuda Campus.
Dr. Sinha spoke at length on “Living Gandhi: Leadership Lessons”. It was a lively and heart warming session which began with a welcome speech by Principal, P. Shekhar. The subject was introduced by Dr. Mina Malkhandi. Among those who were present were the president of the college Sardar R.S. Chahal and Dr. Mina Malkhandi, Head Department of Political Science. All teachers of the college and a big number of students listened to Dr. Sinha with rapt attention for 1 1/2 hours.
Students were also addressed by Sardar R.S. Chahal, President of the college who was all appreciation for the programme Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof-in-charge, Bhuda Campus, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof-in-Charge, Women’s Wing were also present on the dais.
The 7th and 8th Guru Nanak Dev Lecture was organised on the 11th Nov. 2019 one day before the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The lecture was organised by the Dept. of Philosophy and the subject was ‘’Guru Nanak: Life and Legacy”. The guest speakers were distinguished scholars of philosophy and religious philosophy in particular. Prof. Hema More of Pune University spoke first and she spoke on the significance of Guru Nanak Dev ji and compared the ideology that of Lord Buddha. It was a delightful talk appreciated by a gathering of about 200 students, all teachers of the college and some other guests. Prof. More took up multiple anecdotes from the life of ancient sages in order to highlight the legacy of Guru Nanak Dev.
The second speaker was a distinguished Professor of Pune University, Dr. Surjit Kaur Chahal who in her one hour speech tried to draw philosophical significance from the life and values of Guru Nanak Dev. She spoke at length about the importance of diversity and equality behind the success of a civil and plural society.
The scholars were welcomed by the Principal P. Shekhar. There were introduced by Sardar R.S. Chahal, President of the college and at the end the vote of thanks was proposed by the Secretary, Sardar D.S. Grewal. Since there is huge gap between generation of data and understanding of data, the massive amount of data is now being mined.
To make the subject more fathomable, Department of computer Science organized a guest lecture on Data Mining and Applications. It was the 10th lecture of Guru Nanak Dev Lecture Series.
The speaker of the lecture was Dr. Dhravath Ramesh, Asst. Professor, Department Of Computer Science And Engineering from IIT ISM Dhanbad. He made the presentation through PowerPoint. He explained the computational techniques and algorithms involved in extracting the hidden and vulnerable information from gigantic amount of data. He also explained about pattern matching in data mining and how it is applied in real world. He dealt with few areas such as Facebook data, search engines, weather forecasting, healthcare etc.
Those who were present during the talk included Secretary G. N. College, Sardar D. S. Grewal, Principal Prof. P. Shekhar, Coordinator BCA, Dr. Ranjana Das. The program began with the welcome address by Principal Prof. P. Shekhar followed by subject introduction by Prof. Uday Sinha. After the lecture, students queried their questions which was nicely explained by Dr. D. Ramesh.

A very relevant topic of todays’ global scenario was discussed in Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad on 29th February 2020. It was 11th lecture of Guru Nanak Dev lecture series. The eminent speaker was Dr. Gurdeep Singh, a reputed professor from Department of Environmental Studies, IIT ISM Dhanbad, also former vice Chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh. Dr. Singh has been a very decorated scholar of environmental studies who has been visiting professor in more than dozens of universities globally. He is a member of board of environment and conservation, Govt. Of India. He an advisor to the Chief Minister of Jharkhand.
This was one of the most interactive lectures in which the participation of students was exceptionally good. Dr. Singh talked about the growing challenges related to the environment and also he explored about the possible measures to solve the environmental issues.
He asked the students to participate and query their questions then he answered the students’ questions with great patience. The questions were mainly related to the very burning subject of the present day i.e., Corona virus, toilet cleanliness, Prime Ministers Swach Bharat Mission, pollution due to coal mines and excessive use of vehicles, global warming, use of solar energy and wind energy and lastly e-waste management.
He emphasised on changing the public mindset and making people more responsible towards their environmental duties to make the globe more liveable. To inspire the students, he quoted and exampled the famous personalities like Sachin Tendulkar, Bill Clinton, M. S. Dhoni, Arvind Kejriwal and few more.
The students also suggested their opinions for the cause. The discussion mainly circled towards the fact that in the era of globalization the peoples’ mindset and sense of responsibility can bring substantial changes.
The lecture started with the bouquet presentation to Dr. Singh followed by welcome address of Principal P. Shekhar. After the lecture, Dr. Singh was felicitated with Memento presented by Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof-In-Change Girls’ Wing. He was also decorated with shawl presented by Sardar Tejpal Singh, Chairman of Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee. Dr. Sanjay Prasad Prof-In-Charge Boys’ Wing proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Varsha Singh compered the occasion and carried out the subject introduction.
Former secretary of the college Sardar D. S. Gill, Heads of departments, teachers non-teaching staffs and good number of students of the college attended the lecture and got benefitted.
On 24th June, 2016, an initiative was taken by the IQAC that Guru Nanak Dev Lecture Series be started in which distinguished and learned scholars be invited from outside College to address our students on various themes, which can be expansive and not just part of the syllabus. It was decided to shortlist such intellectuals and to request them for sparing time and to have the lectures in the College.
In the first edition of this series, we had 11 lectures on diverse topics.
Since the inception of this series, it was planned that these sessions will go on with a great fanfare, with eminent scholars visiting our campus. However, the current pandemic made us wait for long, and we decided to go virtual with the sessions of Guru Nanak Dev Online Lecture Series with a promise, that in future we will get back to the physical mode of inviting scholars to our campus.
As the first eminent speaker, Prof. (Dr.) Jaydeep Sarangi virtually joined the Guru Nanak Dev Online Lecture Series on 14th July, 2021 and addressed our students, faculty members and scholars from around the country for around 1.5 hours.
Dr. Jaydeep Sarangi is a bilingual writer, poet, critic, academician, editor, interviewer, translator and author of a number of significant publications on Australian literature, Indian writing in English, postcolonial studies and Dalit literary movement in India. He was a faculty in English at Seva Bharati Mahavidyalaya(V.U.), Kapgari and Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College (University of Calcutta), Kolkata. He taught at PG department of English, Vidyasagar University for ten years as a guest faculty. Travelled and delivered talks extensively at different universities and colleges in different parts of India and abroad. At present, he is Principal, New Alipore College. He has also been acting as the President of Guild of Indian English Writers Editors and Critics, and Vice-President of Intercultural Poetry and Performance Library, Kolkata. He has travelled across the globe as a resource person and writer. His books, research articles, translations and poems are in library archives in different universities in the world, such as, University of California, USA , Sorbonne University, Harvard University, Columbia University The British Library, London, University of Queensland, Australia and The University of Chicago, USA.
The topic which Prof Sarangi chose for the session was “‘Strange Adventure' to 'Essential Light': Current Trends in Indian English Poetry.”
Around 140 participants joined the live session. The event also witnessed the graceful presence of Sardar R. S. Chahal (President, GNC), Prof. P. Shekhar (former Principal, GNC) along with Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Principal, Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad. Prof. Amarjit Singh (Head, Dept. of English), Prof. Dipak Kumar, Ms Ghanishtha Verma along with all the faculty members of the College joined the session and made it a success.

The 2nd lecture on the topic ‘The impact of Covid-19 on the Indian Economy’ under the aegis of Guru Nanak Dev Online Lecture Series was organised on the Google Meet by the Department of Commerce, Guru Nanak College Dhanbad on 08.08.2021. The main speaker was Dr.M.K.Singh, Registrar, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. Dr.Singh, an imminent scholar, is also the Ex.President of Indian Commerce Association and also the Ex.Director, Department of Management Studies, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag
Dr. Singh spoke at length about the impact that Covid-19 had on the different sectors of the Indian Economy. He spoke about its impact on un-employment, health and daily of an ordinary Indian citizen. He also mentioned in great detail about the steps taken by the Government to ameliorate the impact of Covid-19 on the Indian Economy.
The lecture was started at 1 p.m. by welcoming of the main speaker by the Principal of the College, Dr.Sanjay Prasad. The lecture was attended by the President of the College, Sardar R.S.Chahal, teachers of the various departments and students(apporoximately 81 Boys and Girls).

The 5th Guru Nanak Dev online lecture was organised by the Department of History on 26 December 2021.
Professor Baidyanath Labh, Vice chancellor Nav Nalanda Mahavihara University and Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Leh Ladakh (Deemed to be University) Ministry of culture Government of India, was the main speaker of the event.
The event started with an Introduction about the topic and the speaker by Dr. Ranjana Das, HOD. A welcome speech was given by Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Principal Guru Nanak College Dhanbad.
Professor Labh gave an insightful lecture on the topic, “Buddhist philosophy and its relevance in Modern world”.
He emphasized on some of the key concepts of Buddhist philosophy like the noble eightfold path, the four noble truths etc. He also explained the importance of Buddha’s teachings in our day-to-day life and how we all can benefit from it.
The session was compered by Dr. Varsha Singh and a Vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Abhishek Kumar Sinha.

A guest lecture on the topic “Recent Trends In IT And Application Development” was organised by DOVS: BCA on Saturday 2nd July 2022.
Keeping in view the today’s scenario of IT sector and software industry, the dept selected this topic and Mr Harendra Singh, a scientist from NIC Ranchi was invited for the lecture.
Mr. Harendra Singh discussed from massive subject to the miniscule details and covered the topic incredibly.He said that the information technology industry is experiencing a boom like never before, and more and more brands are looking to expand in this area because of the immense amount of potential. Information technology has various applications, which is also why it has proven to be such a beneficial key component in the entire structure that industries now have. With the growing importance of this, it becomes important to understand the important aspects of this industry and the key components that make it the revolutionary tool that it is.
In his lecture, he talked about the recent trends of IT terms like Cloud Computing, Mobile Apps, Big Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Smart Technology, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Blockchain Data, Cyber Security, IoT Networks and many more.
He further said that IT infrastructure is generally important in all organizations, whereas the changing demands of the market is fast, therefore companies, organizations and developers need to be updated to keep pace with the changes. It seems that every year people turn increasingly toward living their lives through technology. It has inundated society, families, jobs, and lives. In the continuation he explained students about the android application development and asked everyone to maximise the use of open source software in comparison to proprietary software.
He inspired students with the story of this own life and said that with your innovative ideas and desire to learn new technology, you can really reach height of success.

Professor Keshav Mishra, HOD Department of History, Faculty of Social Science, Banaras Hindu University was the chief guest and main speaker of the event.
The event started with an exhibition presented by the students of department of history. Students showcased their models on Maya civilization, China civilization, Harrapan civilization, Mesopotamia civilization, and Egypt civilization.
The seminar started off with welcome speech and Introduction to the topic by Dr. Ranjana Das. Head of Department, History. It was followed by the Principal’s address given by Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Principal Guru Nanak College and a Presidential address given by Sardar R.S Chahal, President Guru Nanak College.
Professor Keshav Mishra gave an insightful lecture on the topic "Changing contours India-China policy in post-cold war era".
He enlightened everyone about the changes made in the policies of both the countries and emphasized that for the development of Asia, it is necessary to reduce tension and utmost attention should be given to regional development and collaboration.
The session was compared by Prof. Abhishek Sinha and vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Karuna Singh.

Today on 14 February 2023 department of political science organised a session of lecture series under the "Guru Nanak Dev lecture series". The topic of the lecture was "The Vision for Social Justice, Pluralism and Equality under Indian Constitution". The keynote speaker was Prof. Manik Chakraborty. Professor Manik Chakraborty is currently working at Nivedita University, Kolkata. Earlier, he was the Head of the Department of Law, Burdwan University. You have worked as Director in UGC Academic Staff College, Burdwan University. You have worked as Director and Advisor in Amity University, Kolkata.
Professor Manik Chakraborty elaborately expressed his views on Social Justice, Pluralism and Equality. done and while
mentioning Gandhi, he said that only Gandhi's message of tolerance can play a major role in their attainment. Highlighting equality, he said that have we achieved the equality and social justice that our constitution makers had envisioned? This has been highlighted in detail in the Constitution. He also said that Constitution is the supreme law of the country
and said that it is Gita, Quran and Bible for Indian citizens. Indian constitution is the largest and lengthiest in the world.Our constitution reflects the principles of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhin. To achieve Equality and Justice he laid special attention on Secularism and said that the main obstacle in the path of Social Justice is inequality and removal of inequality is possible only when we give importance to human dignity.
Dr. Manik Chakraborty, laid special emphasis on the study of Fundamental Rights mentioned in Part 3 of the Constitution and Directive Principles of State Policy mentioned in Part 4.
Emphasizing on Article 21 Right to Life and Article 21A Right to Education, he said that everything is useless in the absence of education. In the absence of education, there will be no understanding of the constitution. Article 29 and 30 are related to the rights of minorities, which should be known to all Indians because only then they will be able to understand that there is unity in India despite diversity. A detailed study of Articles 36 to 51 is necessary for all citizens to understand social and economic justice and give it a practical form. At the same time, Professor Manik Chakraborty emphasized that in order to bring Social Justice, Pluralism and Socio-Economic Equality to the ground, one has to follow the path of Secularism and tolerance. Unless every citizen of India has complete knowledge of Part 3 and Part 4 of the Constitution, it is impossible to achieve Social Justice and Socio-Economic Equality.
President of Governing Body Sardar R S Chahal Sir said that every student should make part 3 and part 4 of the constitution the basis of his personality building. The program started with the introduction speech of Dr. Meena Malkhandi, HOD. Sardar R S Chahal, President of the Governing Body of the college, Sardar Diljaun Singh Sir and Principal of the college, Dr. Sanjay Prasad Sir had a special contribution in making the program a success. A large number of lecturers and students of the college were present in the lecture series.
On Saturday, 9th march 2024, a guest lecture computer exhibition was organised by DOVS: BCA in Multi-purpose Hall, Bank More Campus of the college. The theme of guest lecture was “DNA Computing: An Application on Image Retrieval”. As in beside, the students of BCA Semester-1 showcased various models and prototypes on different topics based on computer.
The programme started with plant/saplings presented to the guests followed by the welcome address delivered by principal of the college Dr Sanjay Prasad. He in his address greeted the senior teachers, HODs, coordinators of different departments, all the students and the invited guests Dr Jitesh Pradhan and Dr. Imran from NIT, Jamshedpur. He in his talk appreciated the topic of the lecture and said that its significance in today’s technological context in unquestionable. All the dignitaries further moved to the spot the computer exhibition.

The exhibition was highly appreciated by the guests and dignitaries. Dr. Pradhan said the students that with the innovative ideas and desire to learn new technology, they can certainly reach new height of success.
After the exhibition, Prof PushpaTewari, Coordinator BCA introduced the topic of the lecture and also gave a brief introduction of the resource person Dr.Jitesh Pradhan. After that Dr. Prahan was invited for the lecture. He discussed the importance of Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) computing and said that it is considered as one of the advanced fields of Information Technology (IT) industries. He also explained the DNA computing technique which is inspired from biological science that makes the use of DNA bases, namely Adenine (A), Guanine (G), Thymine (T), and Cytosine (C), for operations and as an information carrier. His discussion topics included Image Retrieval, Feature Extraction, Preliminaries and Genetic Coding, DNA Computing, DNA-based Feature Extraction and its Approaches and Techniques. Apart from being interesting, the session being was very knowledgeable and innovative the attenders.
The talk was attended by teachers of the college which included, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof Sanjay Sinha, Dr Varsha Singh, Dr Neeta Ojha, Prof Aranb, Prof. Abhishek, Prof. Soni, Prof Sadhna, Prof Sneha, Prof Anuradha, Prof Daljit and 120 students from DOVS: BCA.
The event ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Prof Uday Sinha from computer department.
On Monday, March 18, 2024, the History department of Guru Nanak College organised a Guru Nanak Dev lecture, on the topic- “Indian freedom struggle: An overview”, along with an exhibition of historical monuments from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM at the bank more campus of the college.
Dr. Vikas Kumar, Head of History Department, Vinoba Bhave University, served as the main speaker in the programme, and discussed various aspects of the Indian freedom struggle during the Guru Nanak Dev lecture, at Guru Nanak College Dhanbad. The programme started with the introduction of the topic by Dr. Ranjana Das,Head of the history department, in which she provided an outline of the lecture by establishing various dimensions of the Indian freedom struggle. In the welcome speech,Principal - Dr. Sanjay Prasad highlighted the usefulness of combination learning through exhibition along with traditional teaching.
In the keynote address, Dr. Kumar explained the importance of sources in history and gave the example that there is no dearth of sources in the context of Modern Indian history, but there is dearth of sources in ancient Indian history. Dr. Kumar then discussed the definition of history and the beginning of modern Indian history. He also discussed in detail about the three major phases of the Indian freedom struggle and said that history is immutable but events are not. He emphasized on the needfor asking questions and also expressed his views on various approaches of historography.
During the exhibition, various historical models where prepared and displayed by the students of the History Department, which included models of Indus valley civilization, Sanchi Stupa, Red fort, Taj Mahal, Victoria memorial etc. During the programme, Guru Nanak College President - Sardar R. S. Chahal, former Principal - Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of Guru Nanak College - Dr Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Sarita Madhesia, Prof. Abhishek Sinha, Dr. Arnab Serkhel, Prof. Karuna Singh, other teachers and 200 students were present.
