Guru Nanak College, NSS Units - 1 & 2 have conducted NSS Special Camp in the adopted village, Dhokra w.e.f. 24th Dec. 2014. This was a seven-day camp which will conclude on 30th Dec. 2014.
The First Day began at 9 A.M in the camp with NSS song. Ninty two student-volunteers participated in the camp. They organized awareness procession and moved through the village holding placards. They raised slogans on the theme "Hariyali" and also enacted Nukkad Natak at different places in the village.
As it was the first day, the Inaugural ceremony took place at 11 A.M.The program was presided over by Prof. Gopal Kumar Sandilya, Prof.-In-charge of the college. Ms. Rita Devi, Mukhiya of the village inaugurated the occasion. Prof. Sanjay Prasad, H.O.D. Economics, Dr. Nakul Prasad, former NSS, Programme Coordinator, VBU, Hazaribag, Prof. Arvind Kumar, H.O.D. Hindi addressed on the importance of social services at the occasion. Prof. Dipak Kumar, NSS, Prog. Officer (1) addressed on the activities of the camp in detail.
Prof. Sunil Sinha, H.O.D, Commerce, Dr. Sangita Nath, Dr. Sudha Pandeya, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Amar Gorai, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, Sri Shivraj Rai, Ward members and many village people were present at the occasion. NSS volunteer, Ashok Maji was the compere in the program. The program concluded with Vote of Thank's by Dr. Mina Malkandi.
On the Second Day of the special camp, the student-volunteers performed many activities on the theme "Plantation". They participated in the awareness procession with placards and banners. They raised slogans against deforestation. Then, they were formed in several groups of 5-6 volunteers and planted saplings in the village. The volunteers also performed in many Nukkad Natak to aware the people of the importance of plantation.
The day was also celebrated as GOOD GOVERNANCE DAY by NSS volunteers. A brief speech was organized on the personality and administrative skills of the former Prime Minister, Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Dr. Mina Malkhandi, H.O.D, Political Science and Prof. Dipak Kumar, Dept. of English, were the speakers on the occasion.
It was the Third Day of the NSS special camp at Dhokra. The theme of the camp was "Literacy". The student-volunteers organized awareness procession in the village. They moved through Baniya Tola, Jobidih, Kamar Tola, Kanhaldih and raised slogans against illiteracy. They were formed in several groups so as to talk to the village people about their wards' education and motivate them to encourage literacy in the village. The volunteers distributed slates and pencils among the children to promote literacy. They also played Nukkad Natak at different places to highlight the importance of literacy in human life.
The Fourth Day of the NSS special camp at Dhokhra was dedicated on the theme of Health, Hygiene and Family welfare. Many activities were organized to highlight the significance of health and cleanliness. The student-volunteers participated in the awareness procession with placards and banners and raised slogans against malnutrition and unhygienic ways of living. They talked with the village people how they could make pollution-free environment. They played nukkad natak to highlight how much injurious smoking, drinking alcohol and tobacco can be to life. The volunteers sweeped through the village and sprinkled bleaching powder in drains and on contaminated water at different places.
The subject of Fifth Day of the camp was “Healthy youth : Healthy society“. The student-volunteers participated in awareness procession, moved in Kamar Kuli (a small Basti of Dhokhra village) with banners and placards and raised slogans. It was a drive against smoking, drinking alcohol, gambling, tobacco chewing etc. The activity also highlighted awareness about AIDS.
A Talk on the theme of the day was organized for the students. Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college, presided over the function. While addressing to the students, he emphasized on up-keeping of proper health because healthy mind resides in healthy body. And, only then one can give one's services to the society. He praised for the activities of the camp.
The activities of the Sixth Day was dedicated on the theme of "Construction Activities". On this day the student-volunteers took up a task of white washing the school building of Janata High School at the adopted village, Dhokra. They stood up together, did all day work and finally completed the task. They participated in awareness procession also and with the banners and slogans made everyone aware that we should not blame the Government for not doing petty construction everywhere. On the contrary we should make efforts to construct and repair small roads, small bridges, drains, etc. The aim of the theme was that we should not neglect the damages in our society, we should repair them instead. The student-volunteers also organized Picnic and enjoyed the lunch together.
The Seventh Day began at the camp with awareness procession on the theme of Communal Harmony. The student-volunteers participated in the procession with placards and banners, moved in the village, raised slogans against Communal feelings prevalent in our society. They played nukkad natak to promote communal harmony. They gave message of United We Stand and Divided We Fall.
The Closing ceremony was organized in the second session of the day. Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college, presided over the function. In his address to the student-volunteers, he said that they should always be committed to the service of the society. The chief guest of the program was Ms. Rita Devi, Mukhiya of the village. She praised for the activities organized by the camp. Dr. Sanjay Prasad, H.O.D. Economics, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Dr. Sangita Nath also addressed to the students and praised for their activities.
Prof. Sunil Sinha, H.O.D. Commerce, Dr. Sudha Pandeya, Prof. Vikash Kumar, Prof. Amar deep Gorai, Sri S. Murlidharan, Sri Shyamal Sen and many guests from the village were present at the occasion. Prof. Dipak Kumar presented Introductory speech and Dr. Mina Malkhandi rendered Vote of Thank's to everyone. Student-volunteer Ashok Maji was the compere at the occasion.

N.S.S Units of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad celebrated National Youth Day on the occasion of Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary on 12th January 2015 at the Boys' Wing of the college, Bhuda.
The program was inaugurated by Prof. Gopal Sharma, Prof. In-Charge of the college, by offering flowers before the picture of the Swamiji. He addressed the students and volunteers on following the ideals of Vivekananda. Then, the student-volunteers participated in an awareness procession and moved through Bhuda, a small village near the college. They raised slogans and urged on the Youth's participation in the making of the society.
Many teachers like Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar also delivered lectures on the ideals of the Swamiji. Dr. Sarita Madesia, Prof. Mousmi Banerjee and Non-teaching staff were present at the occasion.

On the eve of the Republic Day on 25/01/2015, the student-volunteers of the NSS units of the college actively participated in cleaning of the college campus. They helped college staff wash corridors, brooming and sweeping over the campus. They beautified the campus and the flag post with coloured papers and artful rangolis.

Today - 25/01/2015, on the occasion of National Voter's Day, the NSS units 1&2 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, organized Voters awareness rally in Bhuda, Dhanbad. More than seventy student volunteers along with teachers and staff participated in the activity. The rally started from the college campus and moved through Bhuda bazaar, Rani road and residential area of Bhuda. The students carried banners and placards, raised different slogans so as to spread awareness in the said area.

Ansari, Sri Muralidharan, Sri Anant Mohan Singh, Sri Indradev Singh, Sri Imtiaz Ahmed, Sri Ranjeet Mishra, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, Sri Pappu Kumar took part enthusiastically in the rally and guided students in need.

Along with the celebration of Republic Day, our college celebrates this day also as 'Annual Day of college'. The NSS units actively joined hands with the teachers and staff of the college so as to organise the function of the day. Right from the morning, the volunteers made themselves ready and available for all sorts of needful services throughout the day. They decorated the campus and the flag - post with colourful papers and artful rangolis. On this day, along with other student - achievers of the college, 25 NSS volunteers were given mementoes and certificates for their service as best volunteers of the year.
On 8th March 2015, the NSS units celebrated this Day as Women's Empowerment Day. On this day, an Essay writing and Elocution competition was organised at Women's Wing of the college. The subject of the competition was The Role and Importance of Women. Altogether 52 students participated in the essay writing and 18 students took part in elocution. The students participating in elocution spoke on the subject. Prof. P. Shekhar, the Principal of the college, presided over the function. He praised for the participation of the students. In his presidential address, he said that without women, our world would be incomplete. Their role and importance has been ignored till recently in our society. But, women have now come to challenge all orthodox patriarchal notions and have achieved success in all walks of life.

Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 observed International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2015 in the Multipurpose hall of the college in Bank More, Dhanbad from 8:30 A.M. to 9:30 A.M.
More than hundred students of the college participated in the Yoga class. Mr. Ashok Maji, a student trained in Yoga showed Yoga Asanas and talked on the importance of Pranayam, Suryanamashkara, Halasana, Meditation etc.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college and many teachers like Prof. Sunil Sinha, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Dr. Sangita Nath, Prof. Pushpa Tiwari, Prof. Mousumi Banerjee had been throughout the Yoga session and participated in the activity with all zeal.

A Blood Donation camp was organized by Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 in collaboration with Masonic Lodge, Dhanbad, No.95 in the Women's Wing of the college on 24/06/2015 on the occasion of Universal Brotherhood Day. NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and BCA students of the college donated thirty units of blood. The camp held under the medical supervision of the Doctors and technical assistants of Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad.
Many respected members and dignitaries of Masonic lodge like Bro. Purnendu Shekhar, Bro. V. K. Ailavadi, Bro. V. K. Kapahi, Bro. A. K. Chakraverty, Bro. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Bro. A. K. Singh, Bro. Dr. T.N. Ghosh, Bro. Dr. N. K. Maitra, Bro. R. K. Karan, Bro. S. K. Sinha, Bro. G. L. Burnwal were present and made needful contributions.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college was present throughout the camp with all his supports and blessings. Guru Nanak College N.S.S. Units - 1 & 2 celebrated Van-Mahotsav on 6/7/2015 by organising Plantation program in the Boys' Wing, Bhuda, Dhanbad. The program was inaugurated by Sardar Diljon Singh, the Secretary of the Governing council of Guru Nanak College by planting a tree. Many saplings were planted in the campus by the teachers, NSS volunteers and students.

The NSS units celebrated Independence Day with all enthusiasm. The volunteers participated in cultural activity. They worked under the supervision of the Programme Officers. They assisted in all ways to organise the function go smooth and successful.
The units celebrated NSS Day on 24th Sept. 2015. A talk on the importance of the day was organised in the Women's Wing of the college. NSS volunteers and the Prog. Officers motivated other students to take part in the event. Prog. officers, Sri Dipak Kumar and Dr. Mina Malkhandi said in their speech about history and objectives behind NSS.
The Principal of the college, Prof. P. Shekhar said that the end of all learning is service to humanity and the NSS units prepare such volunteers as to serve society. Prof. Debashis Bose, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Amarjit Singh, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad under the banner of NSS Celebrated Vallabhbhai Patel's 140th Birth Anniversary on 31st October 2015 as National Unity Day at the Women's Wing of the college from 2 P.M.
Many Students-Volunteers participated in the activities organized on this day. There was a Lecture program followed by an Essay Writing Competition for the students. The program started with N. S. S. song. Then a series of lectures were delivered by many students of the college. The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his lecturer, he talked on the life and works of Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel. He also said on why he is called "Iron man of India", his important steps towards strengthening Unity, Safety and Security of India. Prof. Debashis Bose, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Dipak Kumar and Dr. Mina Malkhandi also talked on the revolutionary thoughts of the great leader.
All the members of teaching and Non - teaching staff were present at the occasiont. The core activity of the program was an essay competition. More than fifty students took part in it. The title of the essay was - Sardar Vallabh bhai Patel: A True Leader of India.
The program ended at 4 P.M with a vote of thanks to the Chair and all the participants.

Today, on 11th Nov. 2015, the NSS Units of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad observed "National Education Day" on the occasion of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's Birth anniversary, the first minister of Education of Independent India. The activity took place in the Women's Wing campus of the college at Bank More from 2 P.M.
The programme began with NSS Song and was followed by the address of P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his address on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, he talked on Maulana's genuine patriotism, simplicity and his contribution to the development of modern education in India. Prof. D. Bose, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das also shared their views on the great freedom fighter.
An Essay writing Competition on "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad : His life and contribution" was organised on the occasion. More than sixty students participated in the activity.
The programme concluded with vote of Thanks and National Anthem.
