N.S.S Units of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad celebrated National Youth Day on 12th January, 2016 at the Women's Wing of the college from 11:00 AM. Many students, N. S. S. Volunteers participated in the activities organized on this day. There was a Lecture program followed by an Essay Writing Competition for the students. The program started with N. S. S. song. Then a series of lectures were delivered by many students of the college. The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his lecture, he talked on the life and works of Swami Vivekananda. Prof. Debashis Bose, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Prof. Dipak Kumar and Dr. Mina Malkhandi also talked on the revolutionary thoughts of Swami Ji. All the members of teaching and non - teaching staff were present at the occasion. The core activity of the program was an essay competition. A hundred and ten students took part in it.
The title of the essay was - " The Life of Swami Vivekananda and its Relevance in Present Society."
The program ended at 1:00 P.M. with a vote of thanks to the Chair and all the participants.

Today - 25/01/2016, on the occasion of National Voter's Day, the NSS units 1&2 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, organized Voters awareness rally in Bhuda, Dhanbad. More than 85 student volunteers along with teachers and staff participated in the activity. The activity began with NSS Song. Then, an Oath ceremony was organised. The students under the supervision of Prog. officers read aloud the Oath.
The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, the Principal of the college. He, in his address, talked on the importance of the day. He further added that in a democratic nation like India, it is the voters that precisely decide the fate of the nation.
Dr. Gopal Kr. Sandilya, Prof. in charge, Bhuda campus of the college, Prof. Arvind Kumar, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Amarjit Singh, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Sri M.H. Ansari, Sri Anant Mohan Singh, Sri Indradev Singh, Sri Imtiaz Ahmed, Sri Ranjeet Mishra, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, Sri Pappu Kumar took part enthusiastically in the activity.
The rally was supervised by: Prof. Dipak Kumar P.O.(NSS) & Campus Ambassador and Dr. Mina Malkhandi P.O.(NSS).
The units participated with enthusiasm in the Republic Day function of the college. The student-volunteers in full strength reported at the given time. They ensured preparatory activities to be done. After the flag hoisting ceremony was over, they helped teachers and staff organise distribution of mementoes and certificates among student-achievers. On this day altogether 25 students were given certificates of best volunteer along with mementoes. After the function was over, they helped with needful post-event activity.
NSS Units (1 & 2) of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad organized a Three-day NSS camp at Dhokra (adopted village) from 09 / 02 / 2016 to 11 / 02 / 2016. It was an Awareness Programme.
Ninety Student-volunteers(44 Girls & 46 Boys) participated in the camp. The camp ran between 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. in all three days.
Day 1:- The day began at 9:00 A.M. with NSS song by the volunteers at the campus of Janta High School, Dhokra. The volunteers performed activities on Swachhata Abhiyan. They moved in an awareness procession in Bandhdih. They carried placards and banners gave slogans against dirt and uncleanliness. They swept on the roads with brooms and sprinkled bleaching powder in drains. They talked to the people on how and why cleanliness is important.
Day 2:- On this day, the volunteers activity was organized on the theme of "Beti Padhao; Beti Bachao" and "Anti-drug Drive". An awareness procession was organized and one group of students moved from Belgaria through Jobidih and Kamartola with placards and banners sought slogans against consumption of alcohol, tobacco, cigarettes, while the other group of students were advocating for daughter's education. This group distributed slates, pencils and books among the children to promote literacy in girls.
In the second half of the day, two medical officers - Dr. Aditya Khaitan and Dr. Kushal Kant were experts who talked to the students on the hazards of smoking and drinking alcohol. They also prescribed medicine to some volunteers. Prof. Debashis Bose, Prof. Sunil Sinha, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Munishwar Prasad talked on importance of daughter's education and said why this is compulsory for the development of society.
Day 3:- The students worked on the theme "Green Earth; Save Earth". They participated in an awareness procession. They formed in several groups and planted saplings in the gardens of village people. They sought slogans for green environment.
In the second session, closing ceremony was held from 1:30 P.M. The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. It began with the Introductory speech by Prof. Dipak Kumar. The Principal, in his speech, appreciated the activities organized in the camp. He further said that the college would always promote such program. The volunteers performed cultural activities. They presented NSS song, Nukad Natak. Prizes were also given to the students who worked with zeal and motivation. Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das and Prof. Sanjay Sinha praised for the volunteers activity. Prof. Debashis Bose, Prof. Arvind Kumar, Prof. Prabhat Kumar, Dr. Sangita Nath, Dr. Sarita Madesia, Teachers, Staff and students of Janata School, Media persons, respected people of Dhokra village were present at the occasion. The program ended up with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mina Malkhandi.

Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 observed International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2016 in the Multipurpose hall of the college in Bank More, Dhanbad from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.
More than hundred students of the college participated in the Yoga class. Mr. Amit Kumar and his team from Arogya Yogshala presented Yoga Asanas and talked on the importance of Pranayam, Surya Namaskar, Halasana, Meditation and Naturopathy.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college and many teachers like Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Pushpa Tewari, Prof. Uday Sinha, Prof. Ramesh Sharma and Non-teaching staff had been present throughout the Yoga session and participated in the activity with all zeal.

A Blood Donation camp was organized by Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 in collaboration with Masonic Lodge, Dhanbad, No.95 in the Women's Wing of the college on 24/06/2016 on the occasion of Universal Brotherhood Day. NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and BCA students of the college donated thirty units of blood. The camp held under the medical supervision of the Doctors and technical assistants of Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad.
Many respected members and dignitaries of Masonic lodge like Bro. Purnendu Shekhar, Bro. V. K. Ailavadi, Bro. V. K. Kapahi, Bro. A. K. Chakraverty, Bro. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Bro. A. K. Singh, Bro. Dr. T.N. Ghosh, Bro. Dr. N. K. Maitra, Bro. R. K. Karan, Bro. S. K. Sinha and Bro. G. L. Burnwal were present and made needful contributions.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college was present throughout the camp with all his supports and blessings. Many teachers like Prof. Sunil Sinha, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Pushpa Tiwari, Dr. Sarita Madesia, Lt. Sanjay Singh (NCC Officer) and Non teaching staff were also present throughout the program with all readiness.

Guru Nanak College N.S.S. Units - 1 & 2 celebrated VAN-MAHOTSAV on 05/07/2016 by organising Plantation program in the Boys' Wing, Bhuda, Dhanbad. The program was inaugurated by Sardar R. S. Chahal, the Vice president of the Governing council of Guru Nanak College and Sardar Diljon Singh, the Secretary of the Governing council by planting trees. Sixty saplings were planted in the campus by the teachers, NSS volunteers and students.

Guru Nanak College N.S.S units celebrated NSS Day by organising an Awareness Programme at the main campus of the college, Bhuda on 24th September, 2016. Nearly one hundred student-volunteers participated in the Programme. The Programme began with the N.S.S song by the volunteers. Then they took part in the awareness procession and moved in the near-by village, Bhuda. They carried placards and banners and raised slogans on different social issues like cleanliness, health, literacy and plantation. The procession also aimed at motivating students of the locality to join N.S.S. and extend their service to the making of the society.
