N.S.S Units of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad celebrated National Youth Day on 12th January, 2017 at the Women's Wing of the college from 11:30 A.M. Many students, N. S. S. Volunteers participated in the activities organized on this day. There was a Lecture program followed by an Essay Writing Competition for the students. The program started with N. S. S. song. Then a series of lectures were delivered by many students of the college.
The program was presided over by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his lecture, he talked on the life and works of Swami Vivekananda. Prof. Debashis Bose, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Prof. Dipak Kumar and Dr. Mina Malkhandi also talked on the revolutionary thoughts of Swami Ji. All the members of teaching and non - teaching staff were present at the occasion. The core activity of the program was an essay competition. A hundred and ten students took part in it.
The title of the essay was - " The Life of Swami Vivekananda and its Relevance in Present Society."
The program ended at 1:00 P.M. with a vote of thanks to the Chair and all the participants.

Today - 25/01/2017, on the occasion of National Voter's Day, the NSS units 1&2 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, organized Voters awareness rally in Bhuda, Dhanbad. More than seventy student volunteers along with teachers and staff participated in the activity. The rally started from the college campus and moved through Bhuda bazaar, Rani road and residential area of Bhuda. The students carried banners and placards, raised different slogans so as to spread awareness in the said area.
Dr. Gopal Kr. Sandilya, Prof. in charge, Bhuda campus of the college, Prof. Arvind Kumar, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Amarjit Singh, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Sri M.H. Ansari, Sri Muralidharan, Sri Anant Mohan Singh, Sri Indradev Singh, Sri Imtiaz Ahmed, Sri Ranjeet Mishra, Sardar Sarabjit Singh, Sri Pappu Kumar took part enthusiastically in the rally and guided students in need.

Along with the celebration of Republic Day, our college celebrates this day also as 'Annual Day of college'. The NSS units actively joined hands with the teachers and staff of the college so as to organise the function of the day. Right from the morning, the volunteers made themselves ready and available for all sorts of needful services throughout the day. They decorated the campus and the flag - post with colourful papers and artful rangolis. On this day, along with other student - achievers of the college, 20 NSS volunteers were given mementoes and certificates for their service as best volunteers of the year.
Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 observed International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2017 in the Multipurpose hall of the college in Bank More, Dhanbad from 9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M.
More than hundred and thirty students of the college participated in the Yoga class. Mr. Amit Kumar and his team from Arogya Yogshala presented Yoga Asanas and talked on the importance of Pranayam, Surya Namaskar Halasan, Meditation and Naturopathy.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college and many teachers like Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Pushpa Tiwari, Prof. Uday Sinha, Prof. Ramesh Sharma and Non-teaching staff had been present throughout the Yoga session and participated in the activity with all zeal.

A Blood Donation camp was organized by Guru Nanak College NSS Units - 1 & 2 in collaboration with Masonic Lodge, Dhanbad, No.95 in the Women's Wing of the college on 24/06/2017 on the occasion of Universal Brotherhood Day. NSS volunteers, NCC cadets and BCA students of the college donated thirty nine units of blood. The camp held under the medical supervision of the Doctors and technical assistants of Patliputra Medical College and Hospital, Dhanbad.
Many respected members and dignitaries of Masonic lodge like Bro. Purnendu Shekhar, Bro. V. K. Ailavadi, Bro. V. K. Kapahi, Bro. A. K. Chakraverty, Bro. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Bro. A. K. Singh, Bro. Dr. T.N. Ghosh, Bro. Dr. N. K. Maitra, Bro. R. K. Karan, Bro. S. K. Sinha and Bro. G. L. Burnwal were present and made needful contributions.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college was present throughout the camp with all his supports and blessings. Many teachers like Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Pushpa Tiwari, Dr. Sarita Madesia, Lt. Sanjay Singh (NCC Officer) and Non teaching staff were also present throughout the program with all readiness.

Day 1:- NSS unit -1 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad began its first day of NSS Seven - day Summer Special Camp 2017, today i.e. 14th July, 2017 at the adopted village, Dhokhra from 10 A.M.
On the first session/half of the day was Inaugural ceremony. The camp was inaugurated by Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the college by planting a sapling. The NSS student-volunteers, in number of fifty, celebrated "Van-Mahotsav" in the camp. The activity of plantation began on the college campus at first, then the volunteers marched in procession through Baniya Tola of the village. They held banners and placards and raised slogans on plantation. They formed in several groups of 4 or 5 and planted saplings all around in the Tola and gave messages of "save trees and protect trees ".
On the second session of the day, Sri Om Prakash Mahto, Secretary of Janata High School, Dhokhra, was the guest in the camp. He addressed the volunteers and talked on the importance of "plantation". Dr. Gopal Sharma, Prof. In-charge of the College, Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Mina Malkhandi and many respected village people like Mr. Amar Mahto, Mr. Bapi Das were present with all their support.
Day 2:- It was the second day of the camp at the adopted village. The theme of the activity of the camp was DIGITAL INDIA. The volunteers, at first, marched in procession through Kanhaldih, another Tola in the village. With banners & placards, they raised slogans favouring Computer literacy for every one. They interacted with village people and emphasized on the basic learning of computer. The volunteers told them about the Skill Development Program initiated by the Government of India at free of cost.
The unit had invited Prof. Ramesh Sharma from the Dept. Of Vocational Studies of the College as the resource person of the day. He addressed the volunteers and talked on the importance of Digital Mission. He said that there could never be complete development unless we go digital.
Day 3:- On 16-07-17, today was the Day-3 of NSS Summer Special Camp at the village, Dhokhra. The theme of the activity was based on the issue of National importance - "BETI BACHAO BETI PADHAO". The volunteers, today, began with a procession through Mukhiya Tola, carrying banners & placards and raised slogans on the theme of the day. The volunteers were formed in groups of 4/5 with a volunteer-leader. The volunteers distributed slates and pencils among the girl children and encouraged the parents and others to educate their girl children as they should equal in all respect and contribute in the making of a better society.
The activity was presided by Sri Shtrughan Mahto, Mukhiya of the village, Dhokhra. He participated enthusiastically in the procession and addressed the volunteers, at the same time, he appreciated the activity of the camp. He further said that his support is always there for such activities.
Day 4:- Today i.e .17 / 07 / 17, it was the Day-4 of NSS Summer Special Camp 2017 at the adopted village, Dhokhra. The theme of the day was - CASHLESS TRANSACTIONS - based on another digital step of the Government of India. The volunteers, as usual, marched in procession through Baniya Tola of Dhokra with banners & placards and raised slogans on "Cashless transactions". The volunteers formed in groups of 5/6 with a group - leader visited shops and houses of Tola and interacted with shopkeepers and other men and women, talked on the motive of the Government towards better economy and eradication of illegal interpositions in the Market affairs. Further, they tried to convince them to OPT for digital medium while making any transactions.
Sri Shakti Ram Mahto, Sri Amar Mahto, Smt. Ranju Devi, teachers of Janata High School, Dhokhra, were present all day long with their support. Dr. Mina Malkhandi, P. O.(unit -2), addressed the volunteers and spared her valuable time for the camp.
Day 5:- Today was the fifth day of NSS Summer Special Camp at the adopted village Dhokra. The theme of the activity was based on another issue of National importance "Swachh Bharat Mission".
An awareness procession was organized on the theme. The volunteers participated in it and moved through Kanhaldih of the village. They held banners and placards, raised slogans on sanitation and cleanliness. They swept with brooms and cleaned the campus of Janata High School, Dhokhra. They gave the message of maintaining clean and green environment. The people around the place appreciated the move of the camp.
Day 6:- Today was the sixth day of the camp. The activity of the day was "ANTI DRUG DRIVE".
The volunteers marched in procession through Baniya Tola and Kanhaldih of the village. They carried banners and placards and raised slogans on the theme of the day. They also enacted Nukkad Natak as to aware the village people of the hazards of drugs, smoking, alcohol, tobacco etc. The female volunteers interacted with the women of the area and sought for their support in the Anti drug drive in the village and said only then, the eradication of such evils (drug, smoking etc.) is possible in the society. The people of the village showed active participation in the activity.
Day 7:- Today on 20 / 07 / 17, was Closing Ceremony of a Seven-day NSS Summer Special Camp being organized by NSS unit -1 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad.
The Ceremony started at 11:30 A.M. The Guest of Honour was Dr. Vinod Ranjan Sir, NSS Coordinator of Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag. He had come all the way long from Hazaribagh to grace the occasion in rains and showers. He addressed the volunteers and talked on the motto of NSS. He motivated them to keep organizing NSS activities and said that he would always be ready in extending his support in this regard.
Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal of the College in his address, said that such activities were being carried out on regular basis by NSS units of the College. Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. Santosh Kumar, Prof. Sanjay Sinha, teachers of Janata High School, Dhokhra and guests from the village were present at the camp.
The program opened with Introductory / Welcome speech by Prof Dipak Kumar. The volunteers sang NSS song, patriotic song, enacted Nukkad Natak on "Anti drug drive" and shared their experience of the camp. 'Vote of Thanks' wait offered by Dr. Mina Malkhandi.
The theme of the day was "Open Defecations Free Environment". The Volunteers spread awareness through procession, banners and placards. They enacted Nukkad Natak on the theme.
Every day of the camp began with NSS song and ended with national anthem.

Today, on 29 / 07 / 2017, NSS units(1 & 2) of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad celebrated "Van Mahotsav" today. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sri Raj Sinha, M. L. A. of Dhanbad, Jharkhand. He inaugurated the program by planting a sapling in the College campus. Then the guests, accompanied with him, followed with more saplings in the campus. Prof. P. Shekhar, the Principal of the College along with faculty members also planted saplings. The volunteers participated in the activity and had done the preparatory work for the purpose two days before yesterday. They planted saplings in Bhuda, a village outside campus.

The NSS units celebrated Independence Day with all enthusiasm. The volunteers participated in cultural activity. They worked under the supervision of the Programme Officers. They assisted in all ways to organise the function go smooth and successful.
NSS Units-1 & 2 of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad observed 31st October, 2017 as National Unity Day on the occasion of Sardar Ballavbhai Patel's birth anniversary. The activity took place in the Women's Wing campus of the college. On this day, the activity began at 2:00 P.M. with NSS song. Then, 56 volunteers participated in Pledge Ceremony. An essay competition was organised on the occasion. Prof. P. Shekhar, the Principal of the college talked on the significant roles played by Ballavbhai Patel that resulted in the unification of India. He also talked on his powerful personality and of his iron will. Dr. Ranjana Das, Prof. Santosh Kumar also shared their views on the occasion.

Today, on 11th Nov. 2017, the NSS Units of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad observed "National Education Day" on the occasion of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's Birth anniversary, the first minister of Education of Independent India. The activity took place in the Women's Wing campus of the college at Bank More from 2 P.M.
The programme began with NSS Song and was followed by the address of P. Shekhar, Principal of the college. In his address on Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, he talked on Maulana's genuine patriotism, simplicity and his contribution to the development of modern education in India. Dr. Munishwar Prasad, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Ranjana Das also shared their views on the great freedom fighter.
An Essay writing Competition on "Maulana Abul Kalam Azad : His life and contribution" was organised on the occasion. More than sixty students participated in the activity.
The programme concluded with vote of Thanks and National Anthem.
