With the onset of the pandemic novel coronavirus (Covid-19), it was becoming impossible for the colleges to continue with face to face teaching learning process. Naturally alternative system had to be devised.
With the third week of March 2020, our college started some teaching online i.e., Google Classroom. With the beginning of April, almost every department started online teaching. Within a month, online teaching was given a structure and time table. More than 70% students were reached out, and could be included in online classes.
The Department of Political Science decided to have a series of Three Guest Lectures by scholars and academicians on important subjects of Political Science during the Month of August. This was surely quality addition and value initiative on the part of the department.
The First Lecture of the Online Lecture Series was delivered on 4.08.2020 at 3.30 pm by a brilliant teacher Ruth Reha Khan, of the Department of Political Science, St. Paul’s College Kolkata, West Bengal.
She delivered a talk on the topic “Analyzing National Interest: The Manmohan Singh Era in Indian Foreign Policy”. It was attended by huge number of students and teachers of our college. The lecture was inspiring, and was compelling attention. She was able to highlight the important achievements in the area of Indian Foreign Policy during the regime of Dr. Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister. She talked about the policy shift during that time in national interest. She spoke at length about the achievements in Foreign Policy during that regime.
The scholar was welcomed and introduced by the Head of the Department of Political Science of our college Dr. Mina Malkhandi, and a vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Neeta Ojha.
The Second Lecture of the Online Lecture Series was delivered on 16.08.2020 at 4 pm by a very celebrated teacher of Political Science, Dr. B.K. Sinha, Associate Professor and Head Department of Political Science, St. Xavier’s College Ranchi. Dr. Sinha spoke at length on a very relevant subject: “Machiavelli: A Modern Political Thinker”.
In this hour long lecture Dr. B.K. Sinha addressed most of the issues which go on to mean a Machiavellian Politician. Dr. Sinha was able to clarify most of the doubts which are prevalent in the minds of a student of Political Science regarding the political thinker Machiavelli. He was able to establish the correct prospective about Machiavelli and his celebrated book “The Prince”.
More than 150 students and many teachers of the college were present during the talk.
Dr. Mina Malkhandi, H.O.D. Political Science welcomed and introduced the Guest Speaker, and Dr. Neeta Ojha proposed a vote of thanks.
The third Lecture of the Online Lecture Series was delivered on 22.08.2020 at 4 P.M. by a very popular teacher of Political Science, Prof. Sonia Roy from Taki Government College, West Bengal. Prof. Sonia Roy, herself a student of JNU, at presented a very clear perspective about “National Integration: its Challenges and Solutions”.
She spoke for more than an hour to a gathering of about 150 students and several teachers of the college. On this she discussed issues like Unity in Diversity, Nation-Building Process, Caste Identity, Regional Identity, Social Inequality, Linguistic Divide etc. She had tried to provide solutions for National Integration through her fruitful lecture.
It was a very meaningful address, which enlighten the students of the college on very real issue obtaining in the society.
She was welcomed by the H.O.D. Political Science Dr. Mina Malkhandi, and thanked by Dr. Neeta Ojha.
