ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

  • Department of Psychology The Department of Psychology was set up ever since the first affiliation of the college, i.e. in 1970. Honours teaching in the subject was commenced since 1988.

    The Department offers teaching of Psychology in Honours and General courses of Degree programme under CBCS (Choice Based Credit System).

    Initially the college was affiliated to Ranchi University. In 1992 the college got affiliated to Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, and since 2018 the college has got affiliation with Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University, Dhanbad which has been carved out from Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag.

    Psychology is being taught with modern tools & techniques to the students. Apart from the conventional lecture system (chalk & talk method ), modern tools such as seminar classes, ICT enabled classes, interactive sessions with power point presentation are regularly organized so as to make the teaching of Psychology special interest. We have got a Psychology laboratory which helps students comprehend the subject better. Overall personality development of students has always been the focus of attention for the department. It is stressed that students do well at the examination and they imbibe enough to do well in life.

    Parent Teachers meet is a regular annual feature of the department which is a big hit with the parents as well as students. The parents and students are encouraged to fill up and submit feedback forms with their honest remarks and suggestions. This helps the department take corrective steps, if required.

    There are sufficient number of books of psychology in the college library. The college library is an automated one with the facility of INFLIBNET available to the students.

Prospect

  • Psychology is a multi faceted subject that leads to an array of diverse career roles. Psychology is a study of understanding human behavior and mind, offering the chance to explore unanswered questions about the brain, such as how it functions under stress, how it learns language, how it remembers facts or how mental illness can affect the way it works Psychology as a discipline is based upon scientific theories and exhaustive research work. In Psychology degree students can choose to specialize in specific areas of psychology such as health, clinical, educational research, occupational, counselling, neuro, sport and exercise, NGO’s and forensic.

Achievement

  • On successful completion of UG Honours/General programme our students have joined various Universities for Higher studies within and outside the state.
