A workshop was conducted jointly by the N.S.S(Unit I & II) and Rotaract Club of the Guru Nanak College on “Hygiene Practices for Healthy Environment” on 15th May 2015. The workshop was conducted in the seminar room of the Women’s Wing Campus of the Guru Nanak College.
The emphasis of the workshop was on saving the environment, disposal of solid waste, conservation of the underground water, problems of sanitation, health care and food hygiene. Several power point presentation were given by the students as well as the teachers. An awareness procession was taken out by both the Units of N.S.S(I & II) with slogans and banners against the use of polytheine throughout the town which concluded in the college premises. All the teachers and the Principal were present in the workshop.

On 4th July 2015, Digital India week was celebrated in the Department of Vocational studies: BCA. The teachers and students of the Department celebrated the day by giving Power Point Presentations on various topics.
A good discussion was held on importance of digital awareness. Ms. Benish Akhtar, 2nd year student BCA compered the occasion. Pankaj, Subham, Bal Vasudev, Prakash Chandra were amongst the students who actively participated in the programme. A one day workshop on Spoken Tutorial FOSS Project was organised by the Department of Vocational Studies: BCA on 9th March 2016. Apart from the teachers and students of Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, the Principals and representatives of various colleges of VBU, Hazaribag attended the workshop. The Chief Guest of the workshop was Dr. M.P. Sinha, Pro V.C., VBU, Hazaribag. Dr. P. Mahto HOD, Department of Computer Science, VBU, Hazaribag was the main resource person of the workshop. The event began with the lighting the ceremonial lamp followed by welcome address of Co-ordinator, BCA Dr. Sanjay Prasad. The inaugural speech was delivered by Principal, GNC Prof. P. Shekhar. The subject of the workshop was introduced by Prof. P. Mahto H.O.D Computer Science, VBU, Hazaribag. Prof. M.P. Sinha, then Pro Vice Chancellor, VBU, Hazaribag made an inspiring lecture stressing the importance of such an initiative made by the MHRD through IIT Bombay as the Nodal Center. Other presenters were Prof. Pushpa Tewari, Prof. Ramesh Sharma and Prof. Amardeep Gorai. Prof. Uday Kumar Sinha proposed a vote of thanks.
A workshop on Personality Development and communication skills was organized by the Department of Vocational Studies: BCA
The resource person of the workshop was Ms. Gesu Shekhar, founder Eloquence. The Programme began with the presentation of bouquets by students. The welcome address was given by the principal GNC, Prof. P. Shekhar. Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Co-Ordinator BCA introduced the topic while Prof. Pushpa Tewari introduced the resource person Ms. Gesu Shekhar. The workshop was very interesting because of visual questionaires, group discussions and feedback sessions. The students really benefitted out of it. Prof. Uday Kumar Sinha, Prof. Ramesh Sharma, Prof. D. Bose, Prof. Munishwar Prasad, Prof. Amardeep Gorai, Dr. Mina Malkhandi and students of BCA Department were present on the day.
A one day workshop on awareness of Spoken Tutorial Project, MHRD, NMEICT Govt. Of India, was conducted in the BCA Department. The resource person of the workshop was the Nodal Co-ordinator of Jharkhand, Mr. Swapnil More deputed by IIT Bombay.
He explained hands on training about the registration procedure in Spoken Tutorial Project. Also he made the people aware about various courses in Spoken Tutorial Programme. More over he told the benefits of the courses and know how about being an effective course Co-ordinator, which is beneficial for both students and teachers.
40 persons attended the workshop which included students, faculty Co-ordinators, teachers of the college as well as faculty members from the Vinova Bhave University, Hazaribag led by the H.O.D Computer Science Dr. P. Mahto.
The programme began with the bouquet presentation by students and welcome speech by Principal GNC Prof. P. Shekhar. Subject introduction was done by Dr. Sanjay Prasad Co-Ordinator BCA while vote of thanks was proposed by Prof. Uday Sinha. Prof. Pushpa Tewari compered the occasion.
The college tied up with IIT Bombay and started Spoken Tutorial FOSS programme sponsored through NMEICT, MHRD, Government of India.
Our College was made and named the first FOSS Centre of Jharkhand. Prof. Uday Kumar Sinha and Prof. Ramesh Sharma was deputed as the course Co-ordinators of FOSS Program in Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad.
The FOSS Centre Inauguration Programme was organized on 26th Sept, 2016 in Multipurpose Hall, Guru Nanak College, Women’s wing, Dhanbad. The chief Guest of the day was Vice Chancellor VBU, Hazaribag Dr. Gurdeep Singh. Dr. P. Mahto, H.O.D Computer Science, VBU, Hazaribag also graced the occasion. The first FOSS center of Jharkhand was inaugurated by Dr. Gurdeep Singh. This became doubtless a proud moment for the college.

The programme began with welcome song presented by students of GNC Dhanbad. Dr. Sanjay Prasad formally introduced the topic (Open Source Software sensitizing awareness training for free) of the programme. Principal GNC Prof. P. Shekhar delivered the welcome address. A one day workshop on Spoken Tutorial MOOC (MassiveOpen Online Courses) was organized by Department of Vocational studies: BCA on Wednesday, 5th Dec. 2018. The resource person of the workshop was Mr. Subham Chakraborty, State Coordinator, Jharkhand / Bihar Spoken Tutorial.
He explained the importance and trends of MOOC programs in the world and also the benefits of FOSS tutorials. The registrar of BBMKU, Dhanbad Dr. P. Mahto attended the workshop as university representative. The Faculty Co-ordinators of different colleges of BBMKU, Dhanbad also took part in it. Principal GNC, Prof. P. Shekhar, Co-ordinator BCA, Dr. Ranjana Das, Faculty Co-ordinators Prof. Uday Kumar Sinha and Prof. Ramesh Sharma, Jt. Co-ordinator, BCA Prof. Pushpa Tewari were present on the program.
A workshop on career counselling cum interactive session was organized by Department of Computer Science (BCA) on 30th October, 2018 in the Seminar Hall of Guru Nanak College, Women’s wing Campus, Dhanbad. The resource persons of the session were Mr. Anish Sarkar and Mr. Kaustubh Sengupta. They explained to the students about the online test of TCS Ignite which was to be held on 30th December, 2018. This opening was especially for the computer science graduates. This was a wonderful opening for the fresher in which the students will undergo a training phase about the various modules in which they have to work in future. TCS also offers MCA program to students which they can pursue concurrently along with their job.
The talk was attended by the principal GNC, Prof. P Shekhar, Jt. Co-Ordinator, BCA Prof. Pushpa Tewari, Ms. Manisha Singh and almost 100 students. The students from other departments of the college were also present.
Poetry as an art form predates literacy. Still, many readers find it difficult to grasp the nuances of reading and understanding poems, which is part attitude and part technique. Drawing on their own experience as writers, poets and academics, Dr. Basudhara Roy and Mihir Vatsa joined our students on 3rd May, 2019 at the Bhuda Campus to help them take the challenge of reading poetry well in a one day interactive workshop on the topic “How to Read Poems”.

Keeping the same in mind, Department of English, Guru Nanak College organized "Sahityashala" : A Literary Exhibition and Poetry Recitation Session on 17th January, 2020.
The event witnessed numerous presentations by the students of English, which were based on ideologies, theories, realities, fantasies, novelists, poets, dramatists, artists, etc.
Along with the students of Department of English, students from different departments took equal part in the Poetry Recitation Session, which got warm accolades from everyone.
The poems which were read were either originally written by the students or picked up from different known - unknown poets.
A group poetry performance was done by the students on Tishani Doshi's poem "Girls are Coming Out of the Woods”, which sounded powerful.
The event got a strengthening support from Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal, Guru Nanak College; Prof. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. In-Charge, Bhuda Campus, Prof. Ranjana Das, Prof. In-Charge, Bank More Campus; Prof. Amarjit Singh, Head, Dept. of English, GNC, Prof. Dipak Kumar, Prof. Arvind Kumar, Head, Dept. of Hindi, GNC, Prof. Sonu Kumar, Anu Priya Pathak, Sushmita Dutta, the amazing Students, Teachers and Staff of GNC.

A workshop for final year students on Employability Skills was organised on 17th January, 2020 in the Bhuda campus of the college. This workshop was conducted by Prof. A. K. Kaul, Sr. Faculty, Department of Management Studies and Social Work and Mr. Akshay Nanda, Sr. Counselling Coach from Kalinga University, Raipur. These two resource persons gave valuable tips to our students on employability skills, namely communication, team work, time management, confidence, attitude etc. Prof. Kaul in his presentation emphasised the importance of soft skills in the ever-changing job market. He talked about how combination of hard and soft skills would make our students more competitive and relevant in the 21st century job market.
Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Prof. In-Charge, Boys’ wing made a welcome address and introduced the two resource persons. The Principal Prof. P. Shekhar blessed the occasion and in his address to students he said that the most important work of an educational institution was to give shape to students to become a good citizen.
Those present on the occasion were Prof. Amarjeet Singh, Dr. Mina Malkhandi, Prof. Dipak Kumar, Prof. Daljeet, Prof. Piyush along with other teachers and non-teaching staff. Also, more than 110 students from various departments of the college attended the workshop. The students really benefitted and enjoyed the workshop especially because of interactive sessions and group discussions.
Earlier in the same context, the 20 selected students from different departments of our college have attended GDPI programme organised by same Kalinga University in Skylark hotel, Bank More on 11-01-2020.
Today when the whole world is in the clutch of covid-19 pandemic and feels imprisoned, life stagnant, we have to admit that covid-19 is a new normal in today’s context. Encouraged by the vision of Principal Prof. P. Shekhar and inspired by the term he coined Coviducation (imparting learning in the times of covid-19), the DOVS: BCA, Guru Nanak College, Dhanbad, organised an online workshop on “Cloud Computing and Introduction to Google Cloud”.
Cloud Computing is a very relevant topic in current Global situation. Cloud technology is making a great impact on Business Innovation. It creates new opportunities for companies to improve flexibility, reduce costs and focus on core competencies, while transforming the way we work, live and plan.
The speaker of the Workshop was Mr. Ajit Kumar Amit, Managing Partner, Agilicts Private Limited, Singapore. He explained the cloud computing and google clouds and gave his talk on how to secure computing services, servers, storage databases, networking, software analytics, intelligence, buckets, NoSQL, and scalability in computing. He explained how the cloud can be used and also presented the hands-on work on how to use google drive, explore security options and its usability for fast innovation, flexible resources and economic to scale businesses.
Those who were present during the Workshop included Principal Prof. P. Shekhar, Coordinator BCA, Dr. Ranjana Das, Dr. Sanjay Prasad, Dr. Meena Malkahandi, Prof. Daljit Singh, Ms. Manisha, Ms. Sushmita, Mr. Kalyan Paul. Total 86 students from the department attended the Workshop through Google Meet More and got benefitted.
The event was curated by Prof. Pushpa Tewari, Co-Cordinator, BCA While the technical aspects were handled by Prof. Uday Sinha.
The program began with the welcome address by Prof. Pushpa Tewari.followed by subject introduction and introduction to resource person.
The session went on for around 2 hours which was rich, captivating, layered and very interesting. The questions which came up were also substantial, so were the answers of Mr. Ajit.
