WORKSHOP CRITICISM: "NEW VOICES IN CONTEMPORARY POETRY - A BRIEF SURVEY" on 23rd January 2021

On 23rd January, 2021, a Panel Discussion on “WORKSHOP CRITICISM: NEW VOICES IN CONTEMPORARY POETRY - A BRIEF SURVEY” was organised by the Department of English, Guru Nanak College Dhanbad. Four young and prominent voices of contemporary Indian Poetry - Chandramohan Sathyanathan, Suhit Kelkar, Madhu Raghavendra and Shamayita Sen were invited as the panelists. The panel discussion went on for 1.5 hours which was divided between two sessions; one for the questionnaire and another for poetry reading with the invited poets. During the panel discussion, the invited poets threw light on several perspectives, including poetry as a creative medium of expression, impact of history on poetry, responsibilities of a poet, externalizing interiority through poetry, the process of crafting and the impact of criticism on the creativity of poets. After the formal sessions, the four invited poets answered all questions which came from the students’ side. The event achieved its expected height due to the warm presence of Prof. P. Shekhar, Principal, Guru Nanak College, along with faculty members of the College and University, as well as teachers and research scholars from various other Universities along with writers, poets, journalists and students. The event was curated and organised by Dr. Varsha Singh.
